Using RFID Technology To Accelerate Materials Handling Processes

MiTEQ Stand: 130

MiTEQ is enabling leading Warehousing and Logistics organisations with automation and tracking solutions - using RFID technology - to help improve asset visibility, workforce productivity, and day-to-day business efficiency.

MiTEQ help Supply Chain enterprises address people, product, and process challenges using fully integrated, end-to-end automation and tracking solutions.

During IntralogisteX,  MiTEQ will be demonstrating how RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology be layered on top of existing scanning and computing technologies to improve processes like RTI (returnable transport item) management, inventory management, and pick-and-pack productivity.

Zebra Technology’s 2024 Warehouse Vision Study stated that around 1 in 5 warehousing decision-makers are planning to use RFID and location technology for picking, packing, and inventory management by 2024.

Returnable items represent a perfect opportunity for RFID tagging. One industry whitepaper states that “there are hardly any limitations in the use of RFID-based systems [for returnable item tracking], as there are RFID tags suitable for almost all cases and environmental conditions. Furthermore, in an RFID based system, high-volume reading can be easily automated without slow and error-prone manual steps.”

By automating the tracking of asset such as containers, cages, tote boxes, trolleys and more, business leaders can:

  • Maximise RTI utilisation and availability
  • Prevent asset loss or theft
  • Improve accountability for customer disputes
  • Reduce inventory counts from days to minutes
  • Monitor asset lifecycles

Alex Whiting, Managing Director at MiTEQ, says “there are plenty of MiTEQ customers looking to accelerate their materials handling processes using automation and tracking solutions. Some are looking to optimise already very complex systems, others are using basic scanning and computing technologies but want to take their efficiencies to the next level.”

“One of our customers is working to standardise their device estate and modernise their GUIs (graphical user interfaces), which will instantly improve picker productivity. Another is working with us to address read rate inaccuracies and improve their print and label management processes.”

“A project I’m especially proud of is one we are currently delivering, overcoming some of RFID’s most disruptive challenges (water, metal, densely packed items) to help a customer effectively track and monitor a series of temperature controlled containers.”

RFID is one of many tools in the RTLS solution arsenal. The benefits of RTLS solutions overall include:

  • Improved data accuracy and availability
  • Digitised asset tracking and inventory management
  • Time and money savings through automation
  • Greater compliance, health and safety regulation
  • Enhanced visibility and control of production processes
  • End-to-end asset traceability (and quality assurance)
  • Increased revenues

If you are interested in solutions to accelerate materials handling processes for your business, MiTEQ will be situated on Stand i1120 at IntralogisteX.
